We need you! Calling all parents!

Aloha Waverider Families,
We are very busy at Lokelani these days.  At this point of the school year, as the principal, I have to start planning for next year.  I have started conversations with my awesome administrative and leadership team on what we need to do to continue to improve student achievement at Lokelani.  With that said, I need your help.  Parent input is vital to fulfilling the goals of our academic plan.  Currently, all of our staff and some of our students are involved in our accreditation process where we are working on five key initiatives to improve our school.  These initiatives are Wellness, AVID, Enrichment, Technology and Assessment.  We need parents to join these Continuous School Improvement (CSI) Groups where we are working on these initiatives.  We meet on most Wednesdays from 2:05-2:45pm in the band room.  If you are interested in being part of the great conversations and planning about improving our school please call or email me and I will send you the scheduled meeting times.

There are other avenues to be involved at Lokelani.  You could join the PTSA, the School Community Council (SCC) or volunteer for field trips or at our many events that require community participation.   In December we will have our second Career Day to fulfill our school year goal to expose our students to real career opportunities here on Maui and have them relate what they learn in school to college and career goals.  If you are interested in participating in Career Day please contact our curriculum coordinator, Kerry Gudmunson at the school.

Collectively we are responsible for the success of our keiki.  I welcome parent input and hope that you will join us on our continuous journey in school improvement so that our students have maximum opportunities in middle school, high school, college and beyond.  I wish everyone a wonderful November and Happy Thanksgiving and hope to meet more of you as you participate in the myriad of opportunities for parents at our school.

Take care,
Françoise
